Navratri is the most vibrant and celebrated festival in Gujarat.

People of all ages celebrate the festival for 10 nights and the nights become days during the Navratri Festival.

To be a part of this great festivity, The Alumni Association is organizing the Garba Programme every year wherein more than 10,000 people attend the event and is the most talked about event of the city.

The Alumni Association organized its first Garba Programme in the year of inception at Rajpath Club considering that around 1000 students and guests will attend the programme but to everyone’s surprise there was more than 5000 people attended the event and from next year onwards we had to shift the venue to St. Xavier’s ground.

Last year we started a new tradition. First time in the history of HL College we organized an exclusive Garba Programme for students of all HL Institutes and members of the Alumni Association on the campus of the college. The programme was a great success [insert picture]

Highlights :

  • Garba Ground
The Garba Ground can accommodate more than 6000 people. To ensure proper ground management, we divide the ground in circles with central stage for best performers.
  • Entry
Members of the Alumni Association are given free entry and students of the institutes are given entry at discounted rate.
  • Sponsorship
Due to huge success of the event the Alumni association has not gone out in the market for sponsorship of the event and regular sponsors queue up to be associated with the event.
  • Seating arrangement
We are making arrangement for around 3000 people to sit and watch the Garba . The stadium available at the St. Xavier’s lounge is really useful for the spectators.
  • Security
The HL Garba is one of the most secure Garba programme. More than 200 guards are deployed and till today there has not been any untoward incident during the programme.
  • Sound system
State of the art sound system is installed to ensure high quality sound system in the entire Garba ground in spite of having 10,000 people.
  • Inter-college Garba competition
Since last 5 years the Alumni Association has started a rotating drive for inter-college Garba competition. The best Garba of all the 5 institutions are performed in the centre stage before the “Sheri Garba” starts. Students practice for this event before 15 days and really compete against each other [insert picture].

The Garba programme is organized in the true spirit of the festival. No music is permitted based on Hindi film songs. Only traditional “Ras Garba” music is played and all dancers in the Garba arena has to be compulsorily dressed in traditional attire.

The Garba programme has been the main source of funding of the Alumni Association and due to this revenue generated in the garba programme, Alumni Association is able to take care of all its activities.
